Why Do You Share Your Location? Join a BU Research Study with Your Friends!

Maybe it’s a partner who knows you got home safe, a roommate who can see you’re five minutes away, or a parent who checks the map a little too often. Apps like Life360, Find My, Zenly, and Jagat make this part of everyday life, and we want to hear the stories behind it. Why did you start sharing? What does it feel like? Has it ever gotten awkward? We’re running a friendly, conversational group discussion and inviting you to bring the people you share your location with. Sit down with friends, family, or your partner and talk it through together. There are no right answers, and nobody’s judging. What to expect – • Format: One 75-minute focus group over Zoom (online, from anywhere) • Who: Adults 18+ who use a location-sharing app with at least one close contact • Group size: We’re starting with one group of 3 to 5 people who already know each other, so bring your people! • Compensation: Each participant receives a $12 Amazon gift card This is a real research study. It’s conducted at Boston University through the College of Communication and approved by the BU Institutional Review Board (IRB 7911X). Your participation is voluntary and your privacy is protected. Please take this survey if you are interested in participating in this study. It takes approximately 3-5 minutes.
